THE VOICE OF THE LION

welcome🤗

The magazine club is a group of students ranging from all grades within Magee Secondary School who collaborate amongst themselves, students, and other administration to create magazines.
Called the Voice of the Lion, the magazines are published seasonally, 3x a year.
About Us
We believe in the power of spreading voices, storytelling, and creating a creative platform for students. After editor in chief and founder, Julia Guo, noticed a disconnection within her school community, she decided to take action and create a magazine that would mitigate this by incorporating people of various backgrounds, diverse works, and more.
Our team is composed of two different parties. Our executives are the permanent members. We have various roles from visual designers who create attention grabbing covers to editors who organize layouts and catch grammar errors. The executive team puts in their hardest efforts all year round to ensure that a satisfying edition comes out for the public.
Contributors play another big role in our team. Students and staff who submit their work to be published, are interviewed, or are included within the edition are our contributors. These members vary across editions as we have a constant stream of new content.
This new year, we are planning to add various roles within our executive team to accommodate our abundance of new members and growing readership.
The goals of the magazine club are to:
-
foster a close-knit community
-
spread student voices/works
-
create a collaborative and unifying team
-
ignite creativity and curiosity
-
provide exposure for Magee talent
-
cover Magee and local events
-
shape all rounding leaders within the team
-
be an outlet for expression and diversity
-
invite readers to look at things from various perspectives
Julia Guo and Aidan Bradley set up the magazine club stand on clubs day with few expectations. They were pleasantly surprised with over 100 signups. After a month, roles were established and meetings became a regular occurrence. The team was now a group of 9 members, working diligently to collect content and publish each edition on time. After the Winter edition was published, the team noticed that there were in fact multiple things to be unsatisfied with. Thus, for the subsequent editions, they modified and implemented outside feedback to ameliorate the copies. Over the year, they've amassed a readership of over 7.5k, garnering attention from not only students within Magee, but also the VSB.
